I may have slipped
Posted by Sea Anemone under Blabby Blabby
and fallen kinda hard last week. But I came up for air with a spinning wheel in hand!

I bought this from Jeanne about a week ago.
I’ve already spun some completely horrible singles that I didn’t even keep long enough to photograph. I mean, these weren’t even good enough to try and pass off as that big bulky “art” yarn. But I find that the more I’ve kept at it, (enter big moment of “DUH!”) the better I’ve gotten.
This is by no means to say that I think I’m a spinning goddess, I do not harbor ANY illusions there. But, I’ve been pleased enough with what I have been spinning that I’ll probably try plying them this weekend.

I still get too much twist and can’t figure out what to tighten or loosen or chant magic incantations over to help fix this, but I’ll figure it out eventually. At the same time, I’m still all thumbs with that drafting thing. I’ve got a ton of spots of “I can’t believe it didn’t break!!” immediately paired with spots of “Shit, huge slub of roving much??” But, eh! Whatever.
My question is this: Are you a spinner? Do you have any hints or tips or tricks you can share with me?

I don’t have any spinning advice, but congrats on the wheel and the new domain! I’ve updated you on my link page.

Love the fabric! Although I’d be tempted to make a whole deck of fabric cards. In fact, I am tempted.

Yay! It looks good! If you plan to ply your yarn, it’s ok to overtwist it a little because when you ply the yarn, you spin the oppisite way.

the best advice i ever received was to read “The Big Book of Handspinning” by Alden Amos from cover to cover while ignoring all of the mathmatical calculations.
