Strap yerself in - it’s gonna be a looong ride.
Posted by Sea Anemone under Blabby Blabby
The cat needs a bath. In the interest of forgoing extensive bloodloss for as long as possible, I’m going to cram a whole bunch of stuff into this one. heh. Stick around for the ride and I’ll make it worth your while.
First of all, I had a really great Christmas. My family and I tied Jet to the roof of the car and hid her in Galveston. No, really though, we adopted her cause well, we like her. It was fun too. Lots of knitting time, some cooking and a rather interesting game of monopoly. She tells the story really well. Go check it out. (But either finish here first, or make sure you come back.) I got a beautiful wool coat from my Mom. Funny enough, this is a particularly WARM winter. *wrinkles nose* I also received, amongst other things, a couple of movies and my standard Get Fuzzy desk calendar. woo! I feel like I made out like a bandit really.
So, before Christmas, I promised you photos of my stash. Heh. In an effort to be truly honest, and I’ll have you know, it’s not been easy, I’ve photographed EVERYTHING, almost. (I need to photograph the sweater amounts sitting on the bookshelf and the two or three odd skeins that escaped the apt. round up.) Not individually of course, because I realize now that that would take about the next year and a half to photograph.
So without further ado, welcome to my yarn stash!
So, This is (mostly) my stash. On to the "Fun For You" things.
I’m having a contest. Thats right! A contest. Woohoo! Leave me a comment.
Take a little gander through the photos. Pick a yarn, any yarn. Give me a pattern suggestion or other idea of what I can do with it. Ideally, this would be a pattern/idea that fits the yarn. For example: A super bulky yarn with a teensy guage pattern ain’t gonna fly. If I like the idea enough to commit the yarn to its making, I will put your name in a hat and out of all the little slippies, I’ll have my mom or someone draw a name and they will get a yarn-y prize. OK?
Sound like fun? I think so! I’m gonna leave the contest open from tonight, Dec. 29th through January 8th. Have fun! I can’t wait to hear your ideas!

Your stash is so pretty. I’m jealous, and currently living with a stash made up mainly of (shudder) acrylic. Have you seen the book “not Just Socks” ? I picked it up awhile ago, you can make gloves and mitts and stuff out of sock yarn. Although, I suppose living in Texas you have less need for the warm weather gear. Good luck with the stash busting!

Your Kidsilk haze is just DYING to be a Reversible Rib Shawl. And I happen to know some one who could loan you the pattern

I…um…wow. I kept scrolling, very slowly, expecting to see an end to the photos long before I did. Um…damn. I do, however, give you mad props for your taste, which is clearly evident in most of those. (And HOLY CRAP your mom did well on that Manos!)
From the last picture, I think that Patagonia wants to be a girly cardigan, with narrow stripes of lace panel and a pretty edging. And the Landscapes could be something cute, like maybe one of those cowl-hood things, or a keyhole scarf.

Man, that’s a lotta yarn. But it’s all really pretty stuff!
My idea: the Wool of the Andes (in any color) would make really nice Cabled Footies from the One Skein book. You could get a few pairs out of what you have there.
(I knit some of these up a couple of days ago and I happen to be wearing them right this moment. Excellent foot warmers.)

Yeah, your mom can do my yarn shopping anytime!!
My idea: Using all three colors of KP Shadow, make a striped lace shawl, maybe Swallowtail or Icarus…or actually anything from Folk Shawls. I think that the progression it is shown in, it would look really cool and bring something else to the shawl. Good luck!

I have Folk Knitting in Estonia book on loan from the library. Currently lusting after Marko’s mittens (may be tempted to try thumbs again!) but mostly: Laila’s Socks - done in black with variegated red as seen here:

I don’t know enough about yarn to tell if you have the right sock yarn for those socks. But sock yarn doesn’t count?

I want to see those sweater-amounts of yarn!
As for projects, all that handpaintedyarn should become a Log Cabin Blanket. Love those colors together!

*is agog* So. Much. Yarn. I like the Log Cabin blankie idea. Plus it’s fun to do.

Wow, that’s a nice stash you’ve got there! Manos could become My So-Called Scarf, though maybe a skinny version since you only have one hank, it looks like. With all that Lamb’s Pride and WOTA you could do some felting projects–how about a kitty pi bed?
